Most studies of flow in porous media focus on rigid structures.
However, in Nature, many materials are soft and compliant, which can generate complex fluid/structure interactions.
Examples range from canopies to the furs of animals, or even the lungs and ears.
What we did
We developed models to understand the interactions between a fluid and a poroelastic system, along with methods to handle such surfaces numerically, overcoming the conventional treatment of porous media as being rigid entities.
